Post - Visit reflection

My group visited old folks home on the 8th and 19th of June. During the first visit, we help them clean the table, serve the food and sweep the floor. We were not able to communicate well with them as we were shy and not brave enough to approach them. The second visit was better as we were able to communicate with one of the residents there. She shared with us about her life experiences as well as her life in the old folks home. She told us that during the old time, arranged marriage was a common thing. Her marriage was arranged by her parents and she did not even know who was her husband back then. Beside from interacting with the residents, we also helped them doing their morning exercise.
Even though we did not spent a lot of time there, I have learned a thing or two from them. This also changed the way I look to the elderly.

During the visit to the old folks home, I hope that I would be able to help them with their daily activities as well interact with them. I also hope that I will understand what is the past looks like from their experiences. Some problems i might faced during the visit are i might not be able to communicate with some elderly as they may only speak mandarin or dialect. Some elderly may also feel that we are disturbing them instead of helping them, so I need to be careful with my attitude. After the visit, I hope that I will understand more about elderly and the past as well as more willing to help others.

Few weeks ago, all of the secondary three students were asked to go for a CIP, Flag Day to be exact. It was an exciting event as you could spent more time outside the school and meet strangers. We could also help the needy through this event as we were collecting money for them. But it was a quite tough things to do as you would meet strangers who asked certain question. We need to convince them to donate to us. However, this was the feeling after I finished my Flag Day.

The day before the Flag Day, I felt quite bored with this event as i could not find any benefit that this activity would give me. I also felt that this activity was a waste of time. Unfortunately, since it was a compulsary activity which we need to attend, I push myself to do this activity. I keep on telling myself that it was only a one day event.

The day had come. My class was supposed to gather at Tanah Merah MRT station to collect our bag and stickers. Unfortunately, I was not feeling quite well. Throughout the journey from my house, i tried to rest so that i would feel better during the event. After quite a long journey, i reached the station. Outside the station, i saw a lot of students from our school and other school as well. I greet them and collect the bag. Then, we were seperated into smaller group and start collecting the money.

It was not an easy task. Some people did not want to donate as they did not have coins. Also, it was a tiring task as you would not sit for quite a long time. However, overall this activity was a fun thing to do. It also change my point of view of a CIP event.

Opinion on CIP blog

In my opinion, CIP is one of the necessary thing that we must attend during our school time. It help to relieve my stress as i can interact with others and do another stuff. One of the example CIP that i did is the flag day which we attend not long ago. I felt great about this activity as i was able to help others.

I think the school should make CIP compulsory as it can help to boost the students mark. However, the school should allow the students to choose what kind of activity that they want to attend. Example of the activities are trip to old folks home and disabled people. This allow to entertain the people there. This also will leave some happy memories for the people as well as the students.
